Detroit decides for itself who may sell cannabis inside its limits. Ordinance 2022-11, which the City Council passed on 5 April 2022, caps adult-use retail licenses, sets aside half of each license type for Detroit Legacy applicants with long city residency, and keeps retailers to the hours of 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. The first adult-use retail licenses under that ordinance were announced on 22 December 2022, so much of the city's licensed retail is younger than the state market around it.
Our roster records a city for each Detroit store rather than a street, so this page does not sort them by side of town; each store page carries the address the store publishes. One of the 8, House of Dank 8 Mile MI, carries 8 Mile in its listing name, which is also the road where the Detroit Suburbs page begins. With 8 tracked stores across a city of roughly 640,000 residents, Detroit's density is lower than Ann Arbor's, and no single store is close enough to every neighbourhood to set the price for the city. On 13 October 2026 we stopped reading three Detroit stores whose storefronts had loaded with no products on every night we tried, and the five Detroit category pages came down with them, because a category page here has to stand on 5 stores.
Adult-use customers pay Michigan's 16.6% combined tax, a 10% excise with the 6% sales tax charged on top of the excise as well as the price, and registered medical patients pay just the 6%. On 13 October 2026 the Detroit menus we could read were ZAZA Detroit, Cloud Cannabis Detroit and Hyde Cannabis Detroit; House of Dank 8 Mile MI returned no products that morning, and we do not rank a store whose menu we could not read.

Detroit dispensary questions
Where are dispensaries located in Detroit?
Inside the city limits, but our roster records each store's city rather than its street, so we do not group them by side of town. One of the 8 tracked stores carries 8 Mile in its listing name. For a precise location, use the address on each store page; most Detroit stores are a drive, not a walk, from one another.
Are Detroit dispensary prices lower than Chicago?
In general, yes — significantly so. Chicago recreational cannabis carries a combined tax rate that can reach 35–41% on high-THC products (state + city + Cook County). Michigan's adult-use total is 16.6%. Detroit's pre-tax menu prices are also typically lower than Chicago's, so the out-of-pocket difference is material.
What's the difference between medical and recreational at Detroit dispensaries?
Michigan medical patients with a valid MMMP card pay only 6% state sales tax — no 10% excise. On a $30 purchase a patient pays $1.80 in tax against $4.98 for an adult-use buyer. Some Detroit stores also maintain lower medical rack prices. If you qualify, MMMP certification costs roughly $80–$115 and pays for itself quickly at regular purchase volumes.
Which Detroit dispensaries have the best flower prices?
It changes by the morning, so we do not name a standing winner. On 13 October 2026 the Detroit menus that returned products were ZAZA Detroit, Cloud Cannabis Detroit and Hyde Cannabis Detroit, and this page ranks what those menus carry today.
Is there a dispensary near downtown Detroit?
Our roster does not hold street addresses for Detroit stores, so we cannot say which is closest to downtown. Each store page lists the address the store publishes. Wherever you buy, use stays private: Michigan law does not cover consuming cannabis in a public place.
